Over a month ago I was 14 pounds heavier. I didn't know what to do about my weight. My therapist suggested that I track my meals and eating habits by writing down what I ate. So I decided that I could at least make that small step.
I have a smart phone so logically speaking it made sense to me that if I wanted to remember what I ate it would be easiest for me to enter the information into my phone. So I started looking for food journaling applications and found Lose It!. It also counted calories for me which was an extra step but it was so easy I thought "what the heck ".
Within a few pokes of my phone I knew how many calories I wanted to consume in a day and how many calories were in any item of food I happened to be eating. Within 24 hours I was journaling all of my food and mindfully staying within a calorie budget. Within a week weight loss began to show and my blood sugar readings greatly improved. But there are other reasons I chose Lose It! as a weight loss tool.
It's free. I don't have to pay a single cent for it.
Lose It! can be used on both smart phones and on the website if you don't have a smart phone. I use both the website and the smart phone application every day, several times a day .
Both the website and the smart phone applications are easy to use. I type or scan in what I ate and make my choice from a list of foods.
You can search for food generically or by name brand. You can also search for any food by restaurant name as well.
You can follow whatever dietary rules you choose (low carb, vegan, low fat, high fiber) just stay within your calorie budget.
You can choose the rate at which you want to lose weight. There's even information on the website to help you choose a reasonable weight loss per week goal. You can also choose the best goal weight for YOU.
There is no list of "forbidden" foods. You can eat what you like, just stay within your calorie budget. That being said, if you blow all of your calories on junk food you will feel awful and be hungry all of the time. But what did you expect would happen?
You can make friends and get support from the website. I talk to all kinds of people on there every day.
The website will show you a pie chart of where you spend your calories each day and percentages and grams of what food items (fats, carbs, proteins) you are eating that day.
To me it boils down to personal choice. I feel that Lose It! gives me more opportunities to work out an eating plan that works best for my needs.
